Articles for other publications are also included such as Galleries Magazine, Art Review and Time Out as well as commissioned essays written for exhibition catalogues.
The period of writing covers a significant flourishing of the visual arts in Glasgow and Scotland and features perspective and opinion articles on notable artists such as Steven Campbell, Bruce Mclean, George Wylie and Douglas Gordon. The collection is comprised of Lewis Ballantine's own works of art such as life drawings, self portraits, design work and sketchbooks, and photographs, as well as sketchbooks and notebooks that belonged to his mother and father.
The work in the collection by Lewis Ballantine forms a valuable record of his time at the Glasgow School of Art. They show the development of his work as an artist, and provide an example of the type of work that Drawing and Painting students were required to produce during this period.
Lewis Ballantine's mother, Alice Longmuir Nisbet was herself at Glasgow School of Art in the 1930s, and was involved in the Socialist Art Circle. The sketchbooks in this collection also contain works by other members of the group such as Stuart Henderson, Jimmy Morton, James ("Jimmy") Ogilvie, W. C. Thompson and John McLean. The photographs in the collection picture Alice Longmuir Ballantine and John ("Jack") Hendry Ballantine, and Lewis Ballantine's maternal grandfather, Robert Dow Nisbet.

This personal collection, incorporating the Collections of National Society for Education in Art and Design Scottish Region, was deposited by Stuart W MacDonald, Senior Advisor for Strathclyde Region Educational Development Service, in February 1995.
It comprises material from various educational committees and forums with which he was associated, together with the Consultative Committee on the Curriculum item bank, an art projects resource bank for schools. The collection also includes a small number of books from Arthur MacMorland, a leading exponent of Children's Art in Scotland, and former student of Glasgow School of Art.

The Anderson family archive includes material of 5 of its members, namely the sisters Violet Meikle (1873-?), Daisy Agnes McGlashan (1879-1968), Daisy's husband William Smith Anderson (1877-1929) and their two daughters Daisy M Anderson (1910-1996) and Agnes Violet Neish (nee Anderson) (c1912-2005).
The Anderson Family archive contains family papers, sketchbooks, photographs and letters from 1860 to 1969.
The archive contains a number of sketchbooks kept by family members. Those belonging to the women contain flower drawings and schemes for ornamentation whilst William Anderson's books reflect his life as a commercial traveller for an ironfounder's firm and contain scenes from London and elsewhere, as well as technical drawings and plans. As many of the members of Daisy Anderson's family attended the Glasgow School of Art, the collection throws light on the work of the School from the 1880s-1950s.

The photograph album contains photographs of "The Immortals", including Jessie Keppie, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Herbert MacNair, Frances Macdonald, Margaret Macdonald and others of their circle.
The Moyr Smith sketches are from Moyr Smith's first published book Studies in Pictures. Smith trained in Glasgow, becoming influenced by Alexander Thomson and Daniel Cottier, moving to London in 1864.
Of great importance in this collection is a sketchbook of drawings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The sketchbook, dating from the 1890s, consists of 19 drawings of flowers, furniture sketches, and interior sketches of Craigie Hall, Pollokshields, Glasgow.

A number of sketches and photographs of works by William Meldrum. This collection includes figure and illustrative drawings, unique pieces made of seaweed, and a series of monochrome photographs featuring landscape paintings. Most of the items are undated however the dates of creation are presumed to fall between the 1880s and 1920s. A set of typewritten paper by an unknown author dated after 1966, features a brief biography of Meldrum and descriptions of two drawings along with their custodial histories.
William Meldrum tended to work on depicting city views of Glasgow in the early 20th century and landscapes of diverse areas in Scotland. He created multiple pieces of black-and-white photographs on which his paintings have been printed; some of the photographs have identical versions.

A variety of drawings and graphic designs created by Gerard V. Murphy, a former student at The Glasgow School of Art in the 1930s. The diverse subjects of his drawings include animals, plants, architecture, human anatomy and figures. A subfonds titled 'Teaching examples' features his teaching materials as an art teacher at schools, intended for printmaking techniques and pattern design education.
Most items have been marked with his name or student registration numbers, assuming they were created during his time as a student at GSA. The dominant materials in his works are pencil and watercolour, worked on cartridge paper.
Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation was completed in 2019.
