Biographical history
Patrick attended school at Moran Academy, Dundee before moving on to Glasgow School of Art where he was a student from 1924-1928. He studied under Greiffenhagen in Drawing and Painting and etching with Charles Murray (among others), before moving on to Paris. He was based in Dundee for many years, also teaching at the Duncan of Jordanstone College. He accepted a part-time post there in 1928. Patrick started off his career producing etchings, finding a niche in the lucrative London market. However, he was forced to diversify after the collapse of the market, and turned to oil painting. He exhibited his first work at the Royal Academy ion 1928, and has exhibited regularly since. He held a one-man exhibition at Dundee Art Gallery in 1967. He was elected to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1949, an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1949, and a full member in 1957.
