Agnes Violet Anderson was born in Hexham, Northumbria on 21 January 1912. She attended GSA from 1929-1935 studying Drawing and Painting and participated in the societies formed in that era at the School such as the Drama Society and the Kinecraft Society. She married Mr. Neish in the 1930s.

William Smith Anderson (1878-1929), sometimes know as 'Jock' Anderson, was born in Kilsyth. A few years later his family moved to Kirkintilloch. On leaving school he was apprenticed to a firm of ironfounders, Messrs. Cameron and Robertson of Kirkintilloch, eventually becoming their commercial traveller. Much of his business was in England and after marrying Daisy McGlashan in September 1909 the family moved to Hexham, Northumberland.
Anderson attended GSA from 1897-1901 winning several Haldane Bursaries. From 1909 onwards he painted landscapes and street scenes in watercolour and oils. He also painted still life and interiors.

Daisy Agnes McGlashan (1879-1968) studied design at GSA from 1898 to 1905 becoming influenced by 'the Glasgow Style'. Her marriage to William Anderson in 1909, and the birth of two daughters between 1910 and 1912, restricted her time for painting and design but she continued to design her own clothes and wrote and illustrated children's stories which were published in newspapers including The Glasgow Herald, The Newcastle Chronicle and The Hexham Courant. She started painting again in her sixties specialising in flower studies in pastels and was elected to the Paisley Art Institute, The Glasgow Society of Women Artists and the Glasgow Fine Art Institute, exhibiting regularly at them all. She continued to paint until her death in August 1968.

Attending GSA from 1888-1893, Violet McGlashan was a contemporary of Mackintosh, Margaret and Frances MacDonald, Jessie M. King, Muirhead Bone and many others. She studied drawing and design, winning Haldane Bursaries from 1889-1891.

In 1896 she married James Wilson in Kinning Park, Glasgow. She died in 1905 in California, USA and is commemorated in Barbour Cemetery, Kilcreggan, Argyll and Bute.

The Anderson family archive includes material of 5 of its members, namely the sisters Violet Meikle (1873-?) and Daisy Agnes McGlashan (1879-1968), Daisy's husband William Smith Anderson (1877-1929) and their two daughters Daisy M Anderson (1910-1996) and Agnes Violet Neish (nee Anderson) (c1912-2005). All of the members represented attended the Glasgow School of Art between 1888-1936, many of them establishing careers as artists.
