The Art of Posters

Posters as a form of graphic design are unique as one of the few genres of art that is created explicitly to be stuck on a wall. Inherently linked to the everyday, you will have seen and absorbed more posters in your life than any other form of visual art. While the concept of a poster, as a sign that advertises something, has existed in some form since the beginning of life in societies, posters

S.P.A.N.K: Is This Your Art School?

Reflections on the 1980s student-led newsletters in the Glasgow School of Art Archives by Celeste MacLeod-Brown While I was sitting at my laptop clicking through scans of S.P.A.N.K, a friend took interest and asked me to airdrop her the file. I did so, and something felt a little eerie; the tech-induced immediacy, simultaneously reminiscent, yet so far removed from the kind of spontaneity present in the newsletters. It’s a spontaneity I keep searching for, initiating

In the meme, a speech bubble says 'You guys need to get out the way!' while one of the white soldiers, labelled 'Harmful Material' has a speech bubble saying 'Hey! What's the big deal?' and another figure, labelled 'Archives' says 'I think we need to work on ourselves.'

Harmful Material in the Archives and Collections

Archives and Collections Assistant, Emilie Pichot discusses the important work of highlighting harmful materials in the archive. Amongst our holdings there are historical images, or descriptions containing outdated language, which may be harmful or triggering, or perceived as controversial and potentially offensive. Some material may not be suitable for children. Over the last year 18 months we have been undertaking work to address how to appropriately present this type of material. GSA does not endorse

Something to Show Off About

Exhibition Something to Show Off About 01 Jun 2023 – 8 Jun 2023 Annual student exhibitions have always been a highlight of GSA’s calendar. In the 1970s, the longstanding Undergraduate Diploma was replaced by a new
