Window on the Mack

The ‘Window on the Mack’ visitor centre opened in 2014, providing a framed view of the famous Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art from directly opposite, in the School’s Reid Building.

The visitor centre provides not only a stunning view of the Mackintosh Building, but also includes models, photographs, films, animations, drawings and records detailing the famous Glasgow School of Art building by celebrated architect and GSA’s most revered alumnus Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

This permanent exhibition showcases the School’s rich history since its opening in 1845, with original artworks, artefacts, student work and records from GSA’s Archives and Collections on display, explaining the architecture, history and construction of the building.

The ‘Window on the Mack’ visitor centre is the final phase of the larger Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project, 2006-2010, and this facility will form the starting point for visitors to the Mackintosh building.
