In Retrospect

3 May – 10 May 2024

Comprised of the works of four artists studying Sculpture & Environmental Art at GSA, In Retrospect presents a diverse array of responses to the GSA Archives & Collections, exploring its holdings, structure, and the individuals behind it.

Scarlett Darnell, Celeste MacLeod-Brown, Otto Morgan, and Zie Sowden have each engaged with the archives in distinctive ways as part of their course’s ‘Negotiated Project.’ From 18th-century laceworks to 1980s newsletters, their approaches have unearthed and utilised various facets of the archives for research and creative inspiration.

Through sound, textile, sculpture, and video, these artists have brought to light common themes revolving around the genuine intimacy, personality, and human essence embedded within archival practice and ephemera. In Retrospect serves as a testament to their endeavours, showcasing how each artist has explored these aspects, enriching our understanding of the archives.

The exhibition preview is Thursday 2 May, 5pm-7pm.

In Retrospect opens to the public Friday 3 May – Friday 10 May from 10am-4pm at Window on Heritage exhibition space, Reid Building, Glasgow School of Art.
