Mackintosh Building Centenary Celebrations
2009 – 2010
Throughout 2009-2010 The Glasgow School of Art hosted a range of events to celebrate 100 years since the completion of its world famous Mackintosh Building, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and opened in December 1909.
The programme of events started with an exhibition “The Flower and the Green Leaf: Glasgow School of Art in the Early Twentieth Century” (27 November 2009 – 06 February 2010) which explored life in the Mackintosh Building 100 years ago, showcasing a variety of work by students and staff, and including many pieces from the Archives and Collections holdings.
A book was also produced to accompany this exhibition, edited by Ray Mckenzie. The year also saw the launch of an online timeline “The Living Archive” which traced the School’s activities over the last century.
