This poster advertised a lecture by Thomas Joshua Cooper which was organised by The Glasgow School Of Art's graphic design department. Cooper works at The Glasgow School Of Art as head of fine art photography and is regarded as an authoritative figure in his field. The talk was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre within The Glasgow School Of Art on Friday the 29th of October 1993.

This poster advertised a talk given by the mountaineer Con Higgins about his experiences at The Glasgow School Of Art. Higgins is known for tackling difficult climbs and was recognised as one of the first people to climb the 'Albatross' side of Ben Nevis in 1978.

This poster advertised a debate which dealt with the positive and negative aspects of studying at The Glasgow School Of Art which was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre on the 8th of December 1976. Speaking for the school in the debate included Roger Hoare, Mike Roschlau, Tom Lyden and Vladimir Soukoup. Speaking against were Dugald Cameron, Julian Gibb, Colin McNaught and Jim Cathcart. Harry J. Barnes was the chairperson. The poster states: "The Motion: This house believes that this art school creates no prospects, no jobs, no firm conclusions, no hopes, few aspirations, little money, nothing but nostalgia..." The poster was printed by Bob Stewart who was a senior lecturer in design at The Glasgow School Of Art at this time.

This poster advertised a lecture given by the Scottish artist and illustrator Emilio Coia. Coia was born in Glasgow and studied at The Glasgow School Of Art. He is recognised for his work for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as the Scotsman newspaper. Coia was elected as president of The Glasgow Art Club, a role which he held until his death in 1997. This lecture focused on Coia's surreal drawings of famous buildings, with a particular focus on the Sydney Opera House, and was held at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 19th of February 1973.

This poster advertised various events happening during The Glasgow School Of Art's activities week in 1971. The poster details a number of film screenings and talks which took place in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre. Other events included visits to the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride and to an exhibition of prints by the London based printmaking organisation Editions Alecto. There was also an exhibition of work by John McInnes which was held in the Mackintosh Museum.

This is a poster for the 3rd year Textiles Fashion Show held at 7pm and 9pm each night from 8th-9th Mar 2011 . The event was accompanied by a boutique and secret postcard sale with an aftershow party held at the Buff Club. The event was sponsored by Mandors Fabric Store, Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, PRI and Mash amplification. One of the themes of this year's fashion show was the Newbery Tower, which was due for demolition during the School's summer vacation in 2011. The Archives also hold digital images of the secret postcard sale, which involved the selling of postcards created by past and present students on the theme of the Newbery Tower.

This item forms part of a large scale poster advertising The Glasgow School Of Art's 1986 activities week. This portion of the poster advertises a fashion show which was held in the school's Assembly Hall from the 10th to the 15th of March. Tickets were priced at £2.50 with a £1 discount for concessions. Taylor Fegusson hairdressers were responsible for styling the model's hair and the set was designed by the Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama.

This poster is part of a course project organised by the Visual Communications department. The brief for the project required students to design a poster for a particular film they had been assigned. In this example, student Essi Kimpanyaki has designed a poster for the film 'Kapurush'. To create the poster Kimpanyaki has used screen printmaking techniques.

Poster for screening of film 'The End of Summer', by Yasujiro Ozu in the Bourdon Lecture Theatre. Screening date is unknown but believed to be late 20th century.

Contains 28 performance programmes, as well as one poster, drawings of the stage extensions and set designs for the March 1960 production of Hot Summer Night.

The 1978 Fashion Show was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre from the 24th to 28th April 1978. The film comprises a combination of still images and film footage of students preparing for the show behind the scenes, and modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments. Styles and themes include metallic fabrics, sportswear, bodysuits and off-the-shoulder dresses. Children’s clothes were also modelled in the show although these are not shown in the film. Garments were designed and modelled mostly by students or former students. Indigo Designs also designed evening dresses for the show. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: 1st year; Embroidery and Weaving; Textiles; and Graphics. Hair was by the Hely Design Group and shoes were from Ravel. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured ruched fabric backdrop. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include rainbow, futuristic, Oriental, Egyptian, ballgowns, stripes, geometry, hats, formal, off-the-shoulder, utility wear, white, accessories, metallic, fantasy, swimwear. The show also features an extravagant period ballgown, designed by Kenny McLellan, which was subsequently shown at the “Young Blood” exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London, in November 1983 to January 1984. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured fabric backdrop. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Fine Art; Sculpture; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. The set for the show consisted of a black background with white symbols. The 1986 Fashion Show was held in the Assembly Hall from 10th to 15th March 1986. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include Egyptian, metallic, wedding, Queen of Hearts, cloaks, formalwear, masks, hats, bright colours, geometry, flamboyant, utility wear. There is also a dress made from Benson and Hedges cigarette packets – the model wearing this dress is smoking on stage. There were also a number of Harris Tweed garments in the show as Harris Tweed ran a design competition that year. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Silversmithing and Jewellery; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. It is believed that this show had a mix of professional models and students. The models were less experienced models from agencies. The set for the show consisted of a garage workshop setting with car and motor parts at the rear and sides of the stage. It was designed by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The hair for this show was by Taylor Ferguson. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. This poster advertised a series of exhibitions featuring the work of contemporary artists from the province of Ontario in Canada. The exhibitions were organised by Visual Arts Ontario and were held in the Mackintosh Museum and the Newbery Gallery within The Glasgow School Of Art campus from the 25th February to the 22nd March 1985.

This poster advertised an event held in the staff lounge at The Glasgow School Of Art in honour of maintenance staff member Bob Mitchell. The poster features a caricature of Bob Mitchell illustrated by Danny Ferguson who was a lecturer at The Glasgow School Of Art. Although his main duty was maintaining the school's boiler system, Mitchell was also a reliable handy man. He is credited for constructing huge billboards which were errected in front of The Glasgow School Of Art's Newbery Tower to advertise events happening during Activities Week. These various talks and events were advertised on large scale posters, many of which can now be found in The Glasgow School Of Art's poster collection.
