Kitchen Store Jar: Flour

Robert Stewart studied and taught Printed Textiles at GSA from the late 1940s-1980s. As well as being an inspirational educator, Stewart also created designs for Liberty and Pringle and undertook private commissions for tapestries and murals.

This lidded ceramic jar with decorative transfers is labelled “flour”. Other jars in our collection created by Stewart are similar in style, and are labelled for ginger, currants and lentils. Some of these jars underwent conservation work after the 2014 fire.

We hold several examples of Robert Stewart’s works in our collection, including embroidery, textiles, jewellery and other artworks.
