Reporting and Reviews

Papers and documents pertaining to reports, reviews, and quality assessments of the Glasgow School of Art and its Courses. Glasgow School of Art undertakes both internal and external reporting and review processes regularly to ensure the quality of teaching. This is a requirement of the Scottish Funding Council and has long been a requirement of the organisations that fund the School of Art. As part of the internal Annual Reporting Process, departments were asked to submit Course Reports for the academic year just passed, and in some years, Academic Plans for the years ahead. In some years the Course Reports, Academic Plans, and External Examiner's Reports were used in the creation of the Report to the Senate of the University of Glasgow. The Report to Senate includes: Overview of the Session; Annual Course Monitoring Reports; Response to External Examiners' Comments; and Student Statistics. These files also include draft reports, meeting notes, and files of correspondence and papers relating to the reports. Reports over 30 years old are available for public consultation. Permission from the board of governors is needed for access to those which are less than 30 years old. Reporting and Review papers as follows: AC/5/1: Reports to the Senate of the University of Glasgow, 1998-2012 AC/5/2: Annual Course Reports, 1991-2000 AC/5/3: Academic Plans, 1992-2000 AC/5/4: External Examiners' Reports, 1979-2001 AC/5/5: Responses to External Examiners' Reports, 1993-2000 AC/5/6: Annual Course Reporting Correspondence and Working Papers, 1987-2000 AC/5/7: Course Reviews, c1980-2000 AC/5/8: Quinquennial Reviews, 1978-2000 AC/5/9: Institutional Reviews, 1980-2010 AC/5/10: CNAA papers, 1971-1990 AC/5/11: Quality Audit and Assessment Papers, 1991-1997 AC/5/12: Strategic Change Initiative, 1998 AC/5/13: Research Assessment Exercise, 1999 AC/5/14: Appendices for a Review, 1995

Minutes

Minutes of the Academic Council. Also contains minutes from a number of committees under the Academic Council, including: General Purposes Committee; Finance Sub-Committee; Ad Hoc Course CNAA Committee; Students Progress Committee; Director's Advisory Committee; Liberal Studies Committee; and Joint Examinations Committee; and a number of sub-committees that change from year to year. Other papers within the minute books include: prize lists; calendars of the academic year; copies of correspondence with bodies such as the CNAA; copies of External Examiner's reports that were discussed in committee meetings; some draft documents such as course monitoring and review forms; papers on subjects such as staff development and research; and summaries of departmental costs. Between 1973-1983 there are Day Books at AC/2 that contain supporting papers such as attendance sheets, correspondence, circulars and agendas but from 1983 these kinds of documents tend to be found within the minutes themselves. From 1991 onwards minute books were incomplete and therefore have been artificially compiled into the format of the earliest minute books from collections of Academic Council Papers by the cataloguing archivist. Format: The minutes between 1973-1989 have been arranged into folders covering the academic year and include an index book. From 1990 onwards the minute books are arranged by calendar year and are in chronological order. Data protection and sensitivity: Minutes over 30 years old are available for public consultation. Permission from the Academic Council is needed for access to those which are less than 30 years old. Records containing sensitive information about individuals have been collected into separate folders that will be closed for 75 years, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Folders are as follows: AC/1/1: 14 Jun 1973-30 Jan 1975 AC/1/2: 07 Feb 1975-27 May 1976 AC/1/3: 14 Jun 1976-27 Jun 1977 AC/1/4: 16 Sep 1977-20 Dec 1978 AC/1/5: 24 Jan 1979-16 Jun 1980 AC/1/6: 15 Sep 1980-15 Dec 1981 AC/1/7: 04 Feb 1982-04 Oct 1983 AC/1/8: 09 Sep 1983-20 Jun 1984 AC/1/9: 11 Sep 1984-14 Jun 1985 AC/1/10: 20 Sep 1985-13 Jun 1986 AC/1/11: 22 Oct 1986-12 Jun 1987 AC/1/12: 08 Oct 1987-25 Apr 1988 AC/1/13: 10 May 1988-23 Feb 1989 AC/1/14: 04 May 1989-11 Dec 1989 & appendix of Institutional Plan 1989 AC/1/15: 22 Jan 1990-21 Jun 1990 AC/1/16: 26 Sep 1990-28 Nov 1990 AC/1/17: 1991 AC/1/18: 1992 AC/1/19: 1993 AC/1/20: 1994 AC/1/21: 1995 AC/1/22: 1996 AC/1/23: 1997 AC/1/24: 1998 AC/1/25: 1999 AC/1/26: 2000 AC/1/27: 2001 (Mar-Jun only)
