Biographical history
Painter, designer, muralist, printmaker and teacher, born in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire. He attended Glasgow School of Art, 1948-1952, specialising in graphic design, then after a post-diploma year went on to teach art at Lenzie Academy, later becoming department head at Clydebank High School. Resigned from teaching in 1987 to become freelance full-time. Rodger's talents were very varied, encompassing a set of Scottish historical playing cards; a memorial stained glass window at Kippen Parish Church; and historic monuments and buildings commissions, including a mural, lino-cuts and line drawings about the whisky industry, another being concerned with the history of Rothesay. Illustrated books include Monica Clough's The Field of Thistles, 1986, and Behind the Lines, 1989. Showed solo at Ewan Mundy Fine Art, Glasgow. The Collins Gallery at Strathclyde University mounted a retrospective in 1986. Later exhibitions included 'On the Other Hand', Edinburgh International Festival Exhibition, Open Eye Gallery, 2003.
