This poster advertised a talk given by interior designer John Siddeley at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 24th of February 1977. Siddeley's notable commissions include the redecoration of the Swedish Embassy, the design of the Harlequin Suite at the Dorchester Hotel and the Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly.

This poster advertised an event held in the staff lounge at The Glasgow School Of Art in honour of maintenance staff member Bob Mitchell. The poster features a caricature of Bob Mitchell illustrated by Danny Ferguson who was a lecturer at The Glasgow School Of Art. Although his main duty was maintaining the school's boiler system, Mitchell was also a reliable handy man. He is credited for constructing huge billboards which were errected in front of The Glasgow School Of Art's Newbery Tower to advertise events happening during Activities Week. These various talks and events were advertised on large scale posters, many of which can now be found in The Glasgow School Of Art's poster collection.

This poster advertised a screening of Fritz Lang's 'Fury' which was organised by The Glasgow School Of Art Film Society and held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre. The poster was designed by Dennis Crossan who went on to work as a cinematographer.

This poster advertised a symposium given by speakers who were either artists or people associated with film and television. Speakers included Scottish film and television actor Bill Patterson, painter Clive Sutton, Scottish film maker Bill Forsyth, film and television director Joe McGrath and film director Peter MacDougall. The poster is annotated on the reverse with "Colin Wilson".

In this example, student Tu Lang has designed a poster for the Richard Linklater film Slacker. Lang used photo-lithography techniques to create the poster.

Poster for lecture and slide show 'Paolozzi "Images & Media"', Haldane Building, Glasgow, 11 Feb. The year is not given but is believed to be c1970s.

The 1984 Fashion Show was held in the Assembly Building from 30th April to 5th May 1984. The film comprises images of the fashion show poster, followed by footage of the audience arriving at the venue and students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include music, pastels, metallic, rainbow, wedding, hats, white, bright colours, jewellery, off-the-shoulder, flamenco. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. The set for the show consisted of large musical notes and staves, plus piano keyboards. It was designed and built by Minty Donald and Jean Cameron. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Fine Art; Sculpture; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. The set for the show consisted of a black background with white symbols. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. The 1986 Fashion Show was held in the Assembly Hall from 10th to 15th March 1986. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include Egyptian, metallic, wedding, Queen of Hearts, cloaks, formalwear, masks, hats, bright colours, geometry, flamboyant, utility wear. There is also a dress made from Benson and Hedges cigarette packets – the model wearing this dress is smoking on stage. There were also a number of Harris Tweed garments in the show as Harris Tweed ran a design competition that year. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Silversmithing and Jewellery; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. It is believed that this show had a mix of professional models and students. The models were less experienced models from agencies. The set for the show consisted of a garage workshop setting with car and motor parts at the rear and sides of the stage. It was designed by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The hair for this show was by Taylor Ferguson. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. This poster is part of a course project organised by the Visual Communications department. The brief for the project required students to design a poster for a particular film they had been assigned. In this example, student Kim Diamond has designed a poster for Jack Clayton's 1967 film 'Our Mother's House'. Diamond has used screenprinting and collage techniques to create the poster.

Poster for screening of film 'Mystery Train' by the Film Club at the Barnes Lecture Theatre. Screening date is Thursday 12 Apr, year unknown but believed to be from the 1990s to the 2010s.

This poster advertised a lecture given by the artist Ian Breakwell that was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre at The Glasgow School Of Art. Breakwell is well known for working in a variety of mediums including print, installation, film and photography, however he is best known for making work based around his diary entries. He is also associated with The Artist Placement Group, an organisation set up in 1966 to bring art practice into hospitals and prisons. This particular lecture focused on work made between 1965 and 1967. The reverse of the poster is annotated with "J.Cosgrove".

This poster advertised a lecture given by the Scottish artist and illustrator Emilio Coia. Coia was born in Glasgow and studied at The Glasgow School Of Art. He is recognised for his work for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as the Scotsman newspaper. Coia was elected as president of The Glasgow Art Club, a role which he held until his death in 1997. This lecture focused on Coia's surreal drawings of famous buildings, with a particular focus on the Sydney Opera House, and was held at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 19th of February 1973.

In this example, student Essi Kimpanyaki has designed a poster for the film 'Kapurush'. To create the poster Kimpanyaki has used screen printmaking techniques.

This poster advertised a farewell dinner held for the retirement of Kath Whyte. Whyte taught in The Glasgow School of Art's textile department from 1949 to 1974 and was highly regarded for her work in embroidery and weave.The event took place in the Newbery Tower on the 12th of June 1974. The poster was designed and printed by Robert Stewart who produced a number of the posters in The Glasgow School Of Art's poster collection. Stewart was acting Head Of Design in 1974.

This poster advertised a seminar lead by Dr. John McHale which focused on a theme entitled "The Future Of The Future". He did this seminar three times, twice at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 4th and 5th of November and once at The University Of Strathclyde on the 4th of November 1976. McHale was the Director of the Centre for Integrative Studies and School of Advanced Technology for the State University of New York. He is credited as the founder of the Independent Group, a London based artistic movement which kickstarted British Pop Art. Members of the group included Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi, and architects Alison and Peter Smithson. The poster was designed and printed by Bob Stewart, who was a senior lecturer in textile design at this time.

This poster advertised a lecture given by actor Burt Kwouk and director Joe McGrath which was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre on the 23rd of February 1983. Burt Kwouk is famously known for his character Cato in the Pink Panther films while Joe McGrath was a student at The Glasgow School Of Art in the 1940s. The poster was printed by Bob Stewart who was a senior member of staff at The Glasgow School Of Art at this time.

One third section of a poster advertising a series of films that were shown in The Mackintosh Lecture Theatre at The Glasgow School Of Art. Screening were documentaries about artists including Mackintosh, Rousseau, Klee, McLaren, Giacometti, Hamilton, Paolozzi, Jones, Kitaj, Bosch and Spencer as well as a film entitled 'A Short Vision'. This section screenprinted using four layers of CMYK inks.

This poster advertised a lecture given by the photographer Gus Wylie which was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre on the 12th of November 1986. Wylie is known for his monochrome photography work and has taught at both University of the Arts in London and Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. On the reverse of the poster is written "Bob Stewart" in pencil.

This poster advertises events happening on the Monday of one of The Glasgow School Of Art's annual activities weeks. Events included a film screening of Elia Kazan's 'On the Waterfront', as well as an Asian folk concert with music and dancing. There was also a Carol Kidd & Trio jazz concert.

This poster advertised events which took place on the Tuesday of one of The Glasgow School Of Art's annual activities weeks. Events on that day included a lecture by animator Jonathan Hodgson, jazz concerts performed by Ayrshire Jazz Band and Frank Pantrini Quintet, a screening of a film entitled 'Jazz in the Thirties' and a cabaret which was advertised as "Cabaret of a different kind".

This poster advertised a lecture given by filmmaker Lutz Becker who is known for his political and art documentaries. He is also considered to be a contemporary of Derek Jarman. Becker is most famous for finding missing home videos of Adolf Hitler's girlfriend Eva Braun which give an insight into Hitler's personal life. This footage was edited by Becker and used in the World War II documentary series 'The World at War' in 1974.

This poster advertised a performance of medieval music in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre. According to Jimmy Cosgrove, the previous deputy director of The Glasgow School Of Art, the poster features images of a textiles student's work from this period.

This poster was used to advertise a lecture given by the art critic and director Charles Spencer. The lecture focused on the use of print and multiples in art practice and was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre as part of The Glasgow School Of Art's annual activities week. Activities week was an important part of the school's curriculum during the 1970s. All classes stopped and students were instead required to attend lectures and film screenings.

This poster advertised a lecture given by the artist Johnny Ross which was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre at The Glasgow School Of Art. The poster was possibly designed by Jimmy Cosgrove who was the previous head of textiles at the school.

This poster advertised a concert by both Neil Morrison and Ian Strang. Morrison taught at The Glasgow School Of Art and was known for making his own lutes. A number of concerts associated with him took place at The Glasgow School Of Art and the Third Eye Centre during his time at the school.

This poster advertised various events happening during The Glasgow School Of Art's activities week in 1971. The poster details a number of film screenings and talks which took place in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre. Other events included visits to the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride and to an exhibition of prints by the London based printmaking organisation Editions Alecto. There was also an exhibition of work by John McInnes which was held in the Mackintosh Museum.

This poster advertised a lecture given by illustrator Brian Grimwood that was held in the Glasgow Film Theatre on the 18th of November 1993. The lecture was advertised as a "Design School Distinguished Lecture" discussing the illustrative design work of Grimwood. Another lecture was also held at the Ca' d'oro Building on Gordon Street for members of the Chartered Society of Designers.

This item is part of the centre section of a large scale poster advertising lectures given by Bob Godfrey and Joe McGrath during The Glasgow School Of Art's annual activities week in 1971. Bob Godfrey is best known for his animated cartoons such as Roobarb and Custard and Henry's Cat. Joe McGrath is a Scottish director famous for his films Casino Royal and The Magic Christian. The entire poster would have been one of many displayed on huge billboards on Renfrew Street to advertise events happening during each of The Glasgow School Of Art's annual activities weeks.

This poster advertised an exhibition and series of talks by painter and designer Patrick Heron. The exhibition was held in the Newbery Lounge and the talks in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre which were both on The Glasgow School Of Art campus.
