Associated Works

This collection includes works by a number of artists, designers and architects associated with Charles Rennie Mackintosh, including his wife Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, his sister-in-law Frances Macdonald MacNair and his sister-in-law's husband Herbert MacNair. These works include textiles, designs, and four volumes of a Glasgow School of Art student publication called The Magazine, as well as several individual watercolours now separated from the publication. The collection also includes a number of models for proposed architectural schemes by Mackintosh.

Folder containing 49 black and white photographs of various sizes. All are taken by George Oliver with the exception of one which has been taken by Flora Ritchie, the cousin of George's wife, Cordelia Oliver. This photograph depicts a street scene in Townhead, Glasgow, c1950s. The remaining photographs depict various street scenes in Glasgow from 1948-1980s, most of which have been annotated. The earliest photograph dates from 1948 and depicts traction engines pulling North British Loco. Co. engine along Sauchiehall Street en route for the docks. Other scenes include: the construction of the M8, Gorbals, Queen Street Station and trace horses on West Nile Street c1948.

Also contains a programme for Glasgow Coliseum dating from 1924. Includes general scenes of Glasgow including: Merchant City, construction of new flats at Anderston, Charing Cross and high rise flats of the Gorbals.

The collection consists of job files, photographs, architectural drawings and plans for projects undertaken by the architectural firm of Gillespie, Kidd and Coia between c1933 and 1987. There are also general office files containing correspondence, account papers, ephemera and artefacts.

Until this material has been checked for sensitive information, it will not be available for researchers. Once this Data Protection work is complete the collection will be open for access, however any sensitive information will be closed and inaccessible for 75 years from the date of creation.
