The collections includes proofs for book covers and pamphlets, personal correspondence relating to his studies and subsequent career, different ephemera relating to Haswell Miller's student days and photographs of artworks and students and staff members of The Glasgow School of Art.

This collection also includes material relating to Georges-Marie Baltus (DC 098/2) , including photographs of his artworks and his Italian and European trips, and Francis H. Newbery (DC 098/3).

The photographic collections consist of loose photographs, bound albums of photographs and a large collection of lantern slides and glass plate negatives.

The photographs record events at The Glasgow School of Art, its students and their work and act as an important historical source. A large part of the collection consists of the plate glass negatives which were used from the 19th century onwards as a teaching aid and consist of photographic plates of international artworks and architectural examples.

We have identified people depicted in these photographs where possible. Please get in touch if you spot any inconsistencies, omissions or errors, and we will edit descriptions accordingly.

The majority of these records relate to the construction of the Mackintosh Building: the premises of the Glasgow School of Art on Renfrew Street. The erection of the Mackintosh building is well documented, and the records cover all aspects of the creation of the building from early financial records from 1883 to receipts for fittings in 1912. SEC/24: Records relating to James Fleming Panel Fund, 1897-1903 In 1897 a proposal was made to mark the zeal and untiring devotion to the service of Glasgow School of Art of James Fleming, chairman of the Board of Governors. Subscriptions were obtained and a marble presentation panel was commissioned from George Frampton, R.A., sculptor. The panel was placed in the entrance hall of the new building of the School and unveiled in 1903. SEC/26: Records relating to War Memorial Fund, 1919 In 1919, two dramatic performances were produced by Miss Dorothy Carleton Smyth in order to raise funds to provide a memorial to the men of the School who fell at the front.

SEC/27: Records relating to John Keppie Scholarships, 1923-1937 In 1923, John Keppie, an architect in Glasgow, endowed two scholarships at Glasgow School of Art, in architecture and sculpture, in order to encourage the arts of architecture and sculpture. The scholarships were worth GBP100 each and were to be awarded in alternate years to the best student of the year. The architecture scholarship was to be spent in the study of architecture in Great Britain, Europe or elsewhere or in the measuring and laying down of some building of outstanding excellence. The sculpture scholarship was to be spent on the study of sculpture in the Schools of London, Paris, Brussels, Italy or elsewhere. Papers and documents pertaining to reports, reviews, and quality assessments of the Glasgow School of Art and its Courses. Glasgow School of Art undertakes both internal and external reporting and review processes regularly to ensure the quality of teaching. This is a requirement of the Scottish Funding Council and has long been a requirement of the organisations that fund the School of Art. As part of the internal Annual Reporting Process, departments were asked to submit Course Reports for the academic year just passed, and in some years, Academic Plans for the years ahead. In some years the Course Reports, Academic Plans, and External Examiner's Reports were used in the creation of the Report to the Senate of the University of Glasgow. The Report to Senate includes: Overview of the Session; Annual Course Monitoring Reports; Response to External Examiners' Comments; and Student Statistics. These files also include draft reports, meeting notes, and files of correspondence and papers relating to the reports. Reports over 30 years old are available for public consultation. Permission from the board of governors is needed for access to those which are less than 30 years old.
