This poster advertises an exhibition of work done by the Jewellery and Silversmithing department at The Glasgow School of Art. The exhibition was held in the Aaron Faber Gallery in New York City and ran from the 8th of September to the 1st of October 1994. It was organised with the help of the Taffners, a family based in New York who donated money to The Glasgow School Of Art for a number of years.

This poster advertised a talk given by the mountaineer Con Higgins about his experiences at The Glasgow School Of Art. Higgins is known for tackling difficult climbs and was recognised as one of the first people to climb the 'Albatross' side of Ben Nevis in 1978.

This poster advertised The Glasgow School Of Art Master of Design degree show in 1985. The exhibition ran from the 7th to the 13th of December and was held in the Mackintosh Building on The Glasgow School Of Art campus. Exhibitors included Willie Aitken, Janice Kirkpatrick, Adele Patrick, Heather McMurchie, Gary Morgan and Iain Roberts. Janice Kirkpatrick went on to found Glasgow based design consultancy Graven Images.

This poster advertised a debate which dealt with the positive and negative aspects of studying at The Glasgow School Of Art which was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre on the 8th of December 1976. Speaking for the school in the debate included Roger Hoare, Mike Roschlau, Tom Lyden and Vladimir Soukoup. Speaking against were Dugald Cameron, Julian Gibb, Colin McNaught and Jim Cathcart. Harry J. Barnes was the chairperson. The poster states: "The Motion: This house believes that this art school creates no prospects, no jobs, no firm conclusions, no hopes, few aspirations, little money, nothing but nostalgia..." The poster was printed by Bob Stewart who was a senior lecturer in design at The Glasgow School Of Art at this time.

This poster advertised a lecture given by the Scottish artist and illustrator Emilio Coia. Coia was born in Glasgow and studied at The Glasgow School Of Art. He is recognised for his work for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as the Scotsman newspaper. Coia was elected as president of The Glasgow Art Club, a role which he held until his death in 1997. This lecture focused on Coia's surreal drawings of famous buildings, with a particular focus on the Sydney Opera House, and was held at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 19th of February 1973.

This poster advertised an exhibition of work by the Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi. Paolozzi is known for his collage and sculptural works and he often made work in a public setting. This exhibition was held in the Newbery Foyer in the Newbery Tower at The Glasgow School Of Art.

This is a poster for the 3rd year Textiles Fashion Show held at 7pm and 9pm each night from 8th-9th Mar 2011 . The event was accompanied by a boutique and secret postcard sale with an aftershow party held at the Buff Club. The event was sponsored by Mandors Fabric Store, Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, PRI and Mash amplification. One of the themes of this year's fashion show was the Newbery Tower, which was due for demolition during the School's summer vacation in 2011. The Archives also hold digital images of the secret postcard sale, which involved the selling of postcards created by past and present students on the theme of the Newbery Tower.

This item forms part of a large scale poster advertising The Glasgow School Of Art's 1986 activities week. This portion of the poster advertises a fashion show which was held in the school's Assembly Hall from the 10th to the 15th of March. Tickets were priced at £2.50 with a £1 discount for concessions. Taylor Fegusson hairdressers were responsible for styling the model's hair and the set was designed by the Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama.

The 1978 Fashion Show was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre from the 24th to 28th April 1978. The film comprises a combination of still images and film footage of students preparing for the show behind the scenes, and modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments. Styles and themes include metallic fabrics, sportswear, bodysuits and off-the-shoulder dresses. Children’s clothes were also modelled in the show although these are not shown in the film. Garments were designed and modelled mostly by students or former students. Indigo Designs also designed evening dresses for the show. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: 1st year; Embroidery and Weaving; Textiles; and Graphics. Hair was by the Hely Design Group and shoes were from Ravel. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured ruched fabric backdrop. The show also features an extravagant period ballgown, designed by Kenny McLellan, which was subsequently shown at the “Young Blood” exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London, in November 1983 to January 1984. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured fabric backdrop. The film comprises images of the fashion show poster, followed by footage of the audience arriving at the venue and students modelling on the stage. The 1986 Fashion Show was held in the Assembly Hall from 10th to 15th March 1986. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include Egyptian, metallic, wedding, Queen of Hearts, cloaks, formalwear, masks, hats, bright colours, geometry, flamboyant, utility wear. There is also a dress made from Benson and Hedges cigarette packets – the model wearing this dress is smoking on stage. There were also a number of Harris Tweed garments in the show as Harris Tweed ran a design competition that year. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Silversmithing and Jewellery; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. It is believed that this show had a mix of professional models and students. The models were less experienced models from agencies. The set for the show consisted of a garage workshop setting with car and motor parts at the rear and sides of the stage. It was designed by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The hair for this show was by Taylor Ferguson. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. This poster advertised an exhibition of photography held in the Victoria Cafe from the 9th to the 20th of October 1978. Exhibiting in this show were a number of artists including: Elizabeth Urquhart, Ray McKenzie, Douglas Bryce, Chris Webster, Denis Crossan and Jack Fordy. The Victoria Cafe, where the show was held, was part of the original student union across from the Mackintosh building on GSA campus. The name "Douglas R. Bryce Graphics '78" is handwritten on the back of the poster.

This poster promoted an exhibition in London showcasing embroidery and weaving work from The Glasgow School of Art. The exhibition was held in the Embroiders Guild on 73 Wimpole Street London, with a private view "tea party" for the event held on Sunday the 4th November 1979. The exhibition itself was open from the 5th to the 29th of November 1979.

This poster advertised an event held in the staff lounge at The Glasgow School Of Art in honour of maintenance staff member Bob Mitchell. The poster features a caricature of Bob Mitchell illustrated by Danny Ferguson who was a lecturer at The Glasgow School Of Art. Although his main duty was maintaining the school's boiler system, Mitchell was also a reliable handy man. He is credited for constructing huge billboards which were errected in front of The Glasgow School Of Art's Newbery Tower to advertise events happening during Activities Week. These various talks and events were advertised on large scale posters, many of which can now be found in The Glasgow School Of Art's poster collection.
