Biographical history

Sir Harry Anthony Wheeler ( was born on the 7th of November 1919. He worked as an apprentice architect for Alexander Maclean Goudie ( in Stranraer before transferring to Glasgow to work for Lennox and Macmath in 1937. This enabled him to study at GSA alongside his apprenticeship. He went into military service during the Second World War years, returning to the School in 1946. Two years later upon completion of his course, he was awarded the prestigious John Keppie Scholarship in Architecture, a cash prize of £100 to fund an overseas study trip. Wheeler used his scholarship to travel to the Italian cities of Rome, Florence and Venice where he studied the architecture of various Loggias. He died on the 19th of December 2013.
