Patrick Ryan studied at GSA in the 1980s and modelled in the 1984 fashion show. He won second place in the Harris Tweed competition and was a finalist in the Smirnoff Fashion Awards, in session 1985-86. He was also recommended for further study at St Martin's School of Art, in 1985-86.

Patrick established YAB-YUM Japanese clothing company in 1994 and was appointed professor at Musashino Art University in Japan in 2006.
