This item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010). One of nine readers' tables for the Library at Glasgow School of Art. Like the vertical stretchers on the periodical desk, MC/F/73, none of the patterns on the legs (variations on these themes of the gallery pendants) are repeated.

A more elegant version of the windsor chairs designed for the Dutch Kitchen at Argyle Street (Billcliffe 1906.49). These chairs proved much too delicate for their original purpose; only eight of approximately forty have survived, and all of these have had to be reinforced. They were replaced in the GSA Library c1950 by the much sturdier chairs originally designed for the Ingram Street Tea Rooms, MC/F/67. The Ingram Street Tea Rooms were purchased by Glasgow Corporation in 1951 for £25,000 and were then rented out as various shops and warehouses.

'An exaggeratedly tall design which complements the vast interior spaces of the studios. Quite a number of easels must have been provided at the time of the completion of the School, but very few still survive.' (Roger Billcliffe).

Designed for The Dug-Out, Willow Tea Rooms, Glasgow. Mackintosh's watercolour designs for the Dug-Out show a very similar settle (painted yellow) in the staircase vestibule and presumably this is where the piece was originally placed. It is a smaller variant of the Derngate hall settle. Whilst the property of the Grosvenor Restaurant, it was probably painted black, but when it was returned from exhibition in Helsinki (early in 1983) damage to the surface revealed yellow paint-work underneath. When the black paint was stripped it was clear that the entire settle had been painted yellow, and on the lower surfaces the original paint-work was intact, allowing accurate colour matching for repainting. In the winter of 1983-84 the settle was repainted and reupholstered to match the original design. This item was assessed for conversation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010), and then again in 2018 following the fire in the Mackintosh Building in June 2018.

Cube and bobbin legs are a traditional motif not used by Mackintosh before this date. Several of the pieces made for the Dug-Out, however, incorporate such traditional features, e.g. the round table with bobbin legs and the stepped ladder-backs of the chairs (Roger Billcliffe). Repaired, and badly scratched top resurfaced in 1985.

The original position of the fifth lamp is not known. In 1985 it was cleaned and placed above the School outer front doors, at the same time as these were repainted white.

This poster advertised the Interior Design course offered at The Glasgow School Of Art. The poster details the structure of the course and the vocational opportunities that could be gained with a degree in Interior Design. The poster also stipulates the entry requirements for the course. These were a minimum of 5 SCE passes or 3 at Higher grade, or 5 GCE passes, 2 at A level. It was mandatory that two of the subjects passed were Art and English.
