A variety of drawings and graphic designs created by Gerard V. Murphy, a former student at The Glasgow School of Art in the 1930s. The diverse subjects of his drawings include animals, plants, architecture, human anatomy and figures. A subfonds titled 'Teaching examples' features his teaching materials as an art teacher at schools, intended for printmaking techniques and pattern design education.

Most items have been marked with his name or student registration numbers, assuming they were created during his time as a student at GSA. The dominant materials in his works are pencil and watercolour, worked on cartridge paper.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation was completed in 2019.

Includes collages of preparatory designs for printed textiles. Sketchbook submitted as part of portfolio to Royal College of Art. Inside leaf with handwritten name and date, label of submission to Royal College of Art. First page with typed memo by James Cosgrove, tutor, outlining the project brief. Following pages include handwritten notes by Fraser Taylor annotating the sketches.

Designs in mixed media including; gouache paint, acrylic paint, pencil, pen, printing ink. crayon, spray paint and ink on a variety of medium including newsprint, watercolour paper, cardboard, acetate and tracing photocopy paper. Dresser for Glasgow School of Art

This item was partially lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014. This item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010).
The upper (shelved) section and 2 lower drawer units remain. Designed for Ladies Common Room at Glasgow School of Art. Mackintosh's version of a traditional dresser/bookcase, making extensive use of the scalloped edging used at the Oak Room in 1907 and at the Glasgow School of Art Library 1907. (Roger Billcliffe).

Abstract forms painted in an arrange of colours and many different forms of paint. Layers of water soluble media have been layered over acrylic based media to create a crackled two-tone effect.

Abstract forms are painted onto a pink ink painted surface. A fibrous semi-transparent material is stitched onto the surface of the paper outlining the forms in purple thread. Some pieces of the tracing paper and material have been deducted in the shape of the figures to reveal the painted background. Similar in material, style and medium to DC 089/1/2/4/45

A fibrous semi-transparent material is stitched onto the surface of the paper outlining the forms in blue thread. Some pieces of the tracing paper and material have been deducted in the shape of the figures to reveal the painted ground.

Fraser Taylor student sketches and collages for various student projects experimenting with media. Collages of preparatory designs for printed textiles of various media including layers of tissue papers, glassine paper, foam pieces, tracing paper with crayon, inks, dyes and mono print. Textile samples of figure studies with gouache paint, ink and collage areas in various medium. Designs for printed textiles in acrylic and pen on paper with areas of collage. Sketches of landscape and figure studies, pencil, charcoal, chalk, crayon, glue, acrylic and watercolour on paper. With hand written titles, dates and notes. 44 sheets various dimensions varying from 296 x 210 mm to 740 x 555 mm. Some mounted on card. The items are very fragile with
some collage elements, flaking of the friable media such as gouache and acrylic paints.

This item was lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014. One of a series of electric slave clocks located through the Glasgow School of Art and run from a central 'master' clock. This item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010). Installed into Studio 44 following restoration in 2013.

This item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010). Installed into the Mackintosh Library following restoration in 2013.

Poster for the printed textiles degree show

This poster advertised the work of graduating printed textile students exhibiting as part of The Glasgow School Of Art's annual degree show. The exhibition was entitled '13 Printed Textile Designers' and was held in the second floor of the Assembly building between the 7th and 18th of June. This item was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.

Plate from a part set of painted china tea service. Green/yellow lustre glaze over painted flower pattern on white china blanks. It suffered damage in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014, and has since undergone conservation.

Writing desk for Gladsmuir (Version 7)

This item suffered significant damage in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014.

Desk with hinged top, designed for Gladsmuir, Kilmacolm.

The majority of this piece of furniture was lost, however a brass repousse panel plus three handles, all damaged, were salvaged and have undergone conservation and consolidation work. The original item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010).
