Programme for the Glasgow School of Art Fashion Show 1980.
The Glasgow School of Art
Ivory coloured full length dress in two layers, with a fine gauze silk over silk satin. Braided shoelace straps, fitted bodice and full skirt with decorative flounces. Eighteen covered buttons down back. Some damage through wear and from the metal parts of the buttons. Thought to have been designed and possibly also made by either Daisy or Violet Anderson (see DC 022).

The 1985 Fashion Show was held in the Assembly Building from 11th to 16th March 1985. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments. Styles and themes of garments include African, Oriental, Egyptian, hats, bright colours, white, geometry, metallic, sleeves, fruit, accessories, Greek, graphics. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: Embroidery and Weaving; Fine Art; Sculpture; and Printed Textiles. All the textiles students modelling designed garments for the show. The set for the show consisted of a black background with white symbols. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. Ink is applied in washes to the surface of the paper, blue opaque gouache renders the background leaving floral shapes to reveal the ink underneath. Black acrylic is used to outline the organic shapes and loosely create a checked pattern in the background. Paper backed on conservation board.
