Poster for a series of exhibitions entitled 'Beyond the Repeatable Image: The Ontario Project'

This poster advertised a series of exhibitions featuring the work of contemporary artists from the province of Ontario in Canada. The exhibitions were organised by Visual Arts Ontario and were held in the Mackintosh Museum and the Newbery Gallery within The Glasgow School Of Art campus from the 25th February to the 22nd March 1985.

This poster advertised a number of summer school classes in different diciplines that were on offer at The Glasgow School Of Art in the summer of 1994. The back of the poster features a detailed description of each class as well as the names of The Glasgow School Of Art tutors running them and the booking information. Classes included sculpture, calligraphy, spinning, jewellery, silversmithing, desktop publishing, photography, machine embroidery, stained glass, dyeing and weaving, portfolio preparation, drawing and painting, fashion and society and Russian soviet art and design. Poster for the murals and stained glass degree show

This poster advertised the work of graduating students from the murals and stained glass department which was exhibited as part of The Glasgow School Of Art Degree Show in 1983. The exhibition ran from the 14th to the 21st of June and was held in the Mackintosh Building on The Glasgow School Of Art Campus. The murals and stained glass department later went on to become the sculpture and environmental art department in 1985.

Poster for the Master of Design degree show entitled 'Decisions'

This poster advertised the Masters of Design degree show that ran from the 8th to the 14th of December in the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School Of Art. The exhibition included work by a number of graduating students including Douglas Clerk, Andrew Crummy, Fiona Knight, Constantine Lykiarodopoulos, Linda MacCafferty [McCafferty], Carolyn Paterson and Maurice Shannon.

This poster is part of a course project organised by the Visual Communications department. The brief for the project required students to design a poster for a particular film they had been assigned. In this example student Li Lui has designed a poster for the Japanese film 'Tampopo', using collograph printmaking techniques.

GSA Fashion Show film

The exact date and location of the 1982 fashion show are unknown.  Other shows held around this time were however held in the spring, and in the Assembly building or in the Assembly Hall of the Bourdon Building. The film comprises footage of students modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments.  Styles and themes of garments include rainbow, futuristic, Oriental, Egyptian, ballgowns, stripes, geometry, hats, formal, off-the-shoulder, utility wear, white, accessories, metallic, fantasy, swimwear. The show also features an extravagant period ballgown, designed by Kenny McLellan, which was subsequently shown at the “Young Blood” exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London, in November 1983 to January 1984. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured fabric backdrop. The soundtrack for this film was added during the editing phase of the film and contains music which was played at the fashion show. Poster for a retirement party for David Donaldson

This poster advertised a retirement party arranged in honour of David A. Donaldson. Donaldson grew up in Coatbridge near Glasgow. He received a place at The Glasgow School Of Art at the age of fifteen despite having no formal qualifications and went on to become the head of drawing and painting in 1967. He was recognised for his portraiture, notably his portrait of Queen Elizabeth the Second in 1967. Donaldson remained at The Glasgow School Of Art until his retirement in 1981. The retirement party was held in The Glasgow Art Club on Bath Street in Glasgow on the 24th of June 1981. The poster was printed by Bob Stewart who was head of design at The Glasgow School Of Art at this time.

Poster for a farewell dinner for Lennox Paterson

This poster advertised a retirement dinner for Lennox Paterson. Paterson worked at The Glasgow School Of Art between 1964 and 1979, occupying various roles including Head of Design and Deputy Head of the school. He was highly regarded for his wood engravings of animals and the poster features elements of this style. The event was held in the Bourdon Hall at The Glasgow School Of Art on the 20th of December 1979. The poster was designed and printed by Bob Stewart who was a senior lecturer in printed textiles at this time.

This poster advertised the work of graduating students from the Master of Design course which was part of The Glasgow School Of Art graduate degree show in 1983. The exhibition was held in the Mackintosh Building on The Glasgow School Of Art campus from the 10th to the 16th of December. The style of this poster is similar to that of a poster for the Master of Design fashion show which was designed by illustrator Ingeborg Smith and can be found under the reference number GSA/EPH/10/13.

Poster for a lecture by Herman Hertzberger

This poster advertised a lecture given by the German architect Herman Hertzberger. Hertzberger is widely considered to be one of the influences behind the Dutch Structuralist movement of the mid 20th century. The lecture was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre on The Glasgow School Of Art campus on the 20th of February 1975.
