Printed textiles student project sketchbook

Fraser Taylor student sketchbook for student project 'Torn Posters'. Collages of preparatory designs for printed textiles. Sketchbook submitted as part of portfolio to Royal College of Art. Designs in mixed media including; gouache paint, acrylic paint, pencil, pen, printing ink. crayon, spray paint and ink on a variety of medium including newsprint, watercolour paper, cardboard, acetate and tracing photocopy paper. Several pages include designs using butterfly pins, paper clips, string and luggage tags. Black bound sketchbook. 72 pages. Inside leaf with label of submission to Royal College of Art. Following pages include handwritten notes by Fraser Taylor annotating the sketches.

This item was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation took place in 2018.

Reclining nudes

Ten figures in various reclining poses, printed/hand painted on textile and mounted on board. The figure outlines are printed in a dark brown/black, whilst their bodies are filled and shaded in a red-ochre and dark peach (possibly hand-painted).

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation took place in 2018. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.

Large scale collage featuring monoprints of industrial architecture and structures. Central to the design is a male figure with monoprinted face and holding a large industrious pole. The design is painted in gouache and features purple, blue and red with charcoal used to outline shapes. Signed "Fraser Taylor". Work on paper and backed on conservation board.

Figurative textile design

Two painted figures in ink and gouache mounted onto white card. Design one shows an abstract face painted in coloured inks and white gouache. Design two shows an abstract face painted in black ink and purple, blue and cream gouache.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation took place in 2018. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.

Reclining nudes

Ten figures in various reclining poses, painted on textiles and mounted on board. In this pull of the print the figure outlines have been printed in a pale shade which almost matches the backing textile. There is no fill for the figures, only some patches of colour, possibly hand painted, in a red-ochre shade.
