The collection consists of 305 photographs taken between 1853 and 1896. Sitters included local dignitaries, friends and family including John Brown, Queen Victoria's Ghillie. The collection also includes landscapes and the streets of Glasgow, particularly around the Pollokshields area on the south side of the city. Other subjects include ships, ship yards and stately houses.

A variety of drawings and graphic designs created by Gerard V. Murphy, a former student at The Glasgow School of Art in the 1930s. The diverse subjects of his drawings include animals, plants, architecture, human anatomy and figures. A subfonds titled 'Teaching examples' features his teaching materials as an art teacher at schools, intended for printmaking techniques and pattern design education.

Most items have been marked with his name or student registration numbers, assuming they were created during his time as a student at GSA. The dominant materials in his works are pencil and watercolour, worked on cartridge paper.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation was completed in 2019.

Wooden chest with twelve small shallow drawers and two larger drawers. Contains collection of cast reliefs of portrait busts, religious scenes, ancient Greek/Roman scenes, military scenes, and architecture.

Notes and folio referring to the Art Course for Primary Teachers at The Glasgow School of Art. Alastair Shanks attended two of these courses. The notes are intended for use with complete beginners and include lessons on shape, light and shade as well as colour. A two page desciption of the following notes has been provided by Alastair Shanks. The folio of drawings that follow are executed in a variety of materials from pencil to pastel and act as illustrations for various lessons that may be taught.

Metal trefoil style candle holder on flat tray base,for thick candle, possibly ecclesiastical.  Used for school handling collection, marked 'sch 66' in red paint on the base.

Metal, possibly brass, simple inverse funnel shape candlestick from the GSA handling collection with 'GSA 927' marked in red on the base.

Heavy, machined brass candle holder. Threaded bore in base suggests that there may have been other parts to this originally, possibly the base for a candelabra. Part of the School handling collection, marked 'sch 40' in red paint on base.

Metal, possibly tin, coffee pot with repair to handle using a more elaborate metal handle from another vessel to replace damaged section. Part of the GSA handling collection, marked 'sch 19' in red paint on base.

Blue glazed ceramic rabbit with black glazed eyes with red marking on bottom of rabbit, "SCH-83". Includes wooden stand painted black with four small feet, shaped for rabbit to sit. Bottom of stand has red marking "SCH-83B". Due to information in an inventory, rabbit can be dated pre-1958.

Brass lantern treated with gold finish with cut-out ornamental design on top and bottom. Has glass covering for light, cut wires on bottom which would have been attached to light bulb inside. Lantern would have been attached to the wall. Back of lantern has red marking, "SCH-302". Indented stamp on top front of lamp, "ALLAN & CO". Due to information in an inventory, lantern can be dated pre-1958.
