Almost all works are by former students and staff or figures related to the history of The Glasgow School of Art. The earliest pieces date from the 16th century and later examples have been purchased from recent Degree Shows. The work is in a variety of media and includes drawings, paintings, prints, sketchbooks, furniture and sculpture. Artists represented include many key figures and the most influential and successful students.

There are also several works from former tutors including Neil Dallas Brown, David Donaldson and Fred Selby, alongside contemporary works by students, donated or purchased at degree show. Key works include those by: Maurice Greiffenhagen, Francis Newbery, John Quinton Pringle, Benno Schotz, Ian Fleming and James D Robertson. Suites of note include large collections of Joan Eardley sketches and paintings, Joan Palmer prints, and architectural drawings by Eugene Bourdon.

Newscutting featuring Haswell Miller at the Meeting of the Governors

The photograph features Archibald Haswell Miller and Josephine Haswell Miller alongside a group of males and females.

The supporting text reads "A group at the meeting of the Governors of the Glasgow School of Art this week, when Mr John D. Revel (centre), of Chelsea, was introduced to the board on the occasion of his taking up duty.–"Bulletin" Photo." The newscutting is supported by a handwritten map located below it. It offers the list of names and the location of the subjects in the photograph.

The cardboard also displays additional annotations by Haswell Miller: "We accepted him with all kindness and welcome. After a few weeks he called the staff together and practically told us he was going to sack the lot! I anticipated this by accepting the keepership of the National Galleries. Edinburgh. (Not very well qualified but standard were low in 1930)".

They also show the text "Vier Kunstakademiker. München 1909 - / John R. Covert / Oliver Smock / A Haswell Miller ("Glasgow-Muller") / Louis ("Consul") Miller. I [...] taken at a small fair in Munich Spring 1909. The screen represents the [...] of a Zeppelin airship the first of which had just visited Munich with great excitement."

Poster for an exhibition of work by postgraduate students

This poster advertised an exhibition of work by postgraduate fine art students which was held in the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School Of Art from the 23rd to the 29th of June 1990. The show included work by Marta Estrella, Martyn Greenhalgh, Christopher Hoddinott, Brigitte Jurack, Richard Learoyd, Rachel Meehan, Gregory Patterson, Robert Stark and Euan Sutherland. The poster was designed at The Glasgow School Of Art and printed at David J Clark Limited. The image used on the poster was taken by Richard Learoyd and shows a number of students including: - Alex Dempster - Jim Hamlyn - Peter McCaughey - Craig Richardson - Julie Roberts - Andrew Sneddon - Eddie Stewart - Cathy Whippey The list of names was gathered with the help of Eddie Stewart who works as a tutor in the school's painting and printmaking department. Stewart previously graduated from the school with an undergraduate degree in drawing and painting and a postgraduate degree in fine art. He is pictured in The Glasgow School Of Art's degree show posters for 1988 and 1990, both of which appear in The Glasgow School Of Art poster collection. A key identifying each student in the photograph can also be found in the archival folder for this item.

Identification key for poster reference GSAA/EPH/10/204

This item is an identification key showing each student depicted in the photograph on the poster under the reference number GSAA/EPH/10/204. It was created by Katie Hawson who was a volunteer at The Glasgow School Of Art Archives and Collections in 2013. Eddie Stewart, a former painting and printmaking tutor at the school helped Katie to identify each individual.

This poster advertised the Master of Fine Art exhibition of 1986. The exhibition was held in the McLellan Galleries on Sauchiehall Street from the 14th to the 19th of June and included work by a number of artists including Rosemary Beaton, Steven Elliott, Deran Fenwick, Gerard Ferris, Thomas Hegarty, Henry Kerr, Lorraine A. Lamond, Richard Levan, Tracy Mackenna, Craig Peacock and David Watt.
