Textiles and papers of Fraser Taylor, GSA student and designer with The Cloth

The collection consists of printed textiles, garments and papers relating to Fraser Taylor's time as an undergraduate student at GSA (1978-1981), a postgraduate student at RCA (1983), and items relating to other professional activities. It also includes examples of textiles and associated ephemera for design collective The Cloth (1983-1987).

Step figurative textile design

Abstract disassembled human form painted in blue and red on white paper. Torso of form revealing the white of the paper with an ultramarine outline and sporting a sash like garment.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation took place in 2018. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.

Step figurative textile design

Abstract forms painted in an arrange of colours and many different forms of paint. Layers of water soluble media have been layered over acrylic based media to create a crackled two-tone effect.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation took place in 2018. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.

Fraser Taylor student sketchbook dated May 1980. Collages of preparatory designs for printed textiles. Sketchbook submitted as part of portfolio to Royal College of Art. Designs in mixed media including; gouache paint, acrylic paint, pencil, pen, lino printing and crayon, wax and ink on a variety of medium including newsprint, watercolour paper, cardboard and tracing photocopy paper. Black bound sketchbook. 55 pages. Inside leaf with label of submission to Royal College of Art. Following pages include handwritten notes by Fraser Taylor annotating the sketches.
