A small fabric soft "kitten" mascot.

Lviv National Academy of the Arts has been a hub for displaced staff and students since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Volunteers have been making camouflage nets for the front line. But alongside this they have also been making small toys/mascots for the soldiers from the leftover camouflage fabric. The Ukrainian soldiers are affectionately called “Our Kittens”, their Kittens fighting for Ukraine.

This "kitten" was gifted to GSA's Archives and Collections staff as a token of thanks from colleagues in the Lviv National Academy of the Arts. GSA Archives and Collections staff mentored LNAA staff through a digitisation project in 2023, as part of the funded project "Developing and Promoting Sustainable Cultural Heritage in Disaster Contexts" which was part of GSA's ongoing twinning with Lviv National Academy of the Arts. GSA's Archives and Collections staff were told that we here at GSA are also LNAA's "kittens", fighting to protect the heritage of LNAA and Ukraine.

Artistic Dress made by a third year Interior Design student as a project for the 'Artistic Dress - Fashion, Style and identity' course.  Full length, long sleeved 'A' line dress in dark blue, with a square neck and a central panel of applique in stylized floral shapes in cream, beige and lemon, with an orange/gold ribbon edging to the area.  Also, an essay about Artistic dress and making a dress inspired by her studies.

Large scale textile work, 'Drawn Out', designed to be stretched over a frame allowing the central neck opening and sleeves to pull forward from the rest of the work. Digitally printed in greyscale and black on stretch cotton fabric. Heavyweight unbleached cotton vertical banner with Mackintosh weather vane in brown and Mackintosh School of Architecture in red Mackintosh style lettering underneath.

Short, collarless box jacket made from panels of loosely woven fabric with pink warp thread and yellow, orange, pale blue and lilac silk organza ribbon weft. Panel sections edged with tightly woven cream threads. A band of silk in graduated colours finnishes the inside hem. Very similar to a fabric sample in the Textile Student Work collection believed to be made by Pauline Mcconnachie.

Striped cotton jumpsuit in cream, light and dark green, light and dark lilac, and khaki.  The design of the garment suggests that the material was dyed to suit. Strapless fitted bodice with darts opening to wide legged trousers which gather at the ankles in a decorative thread weave cuff. Lace tie fastening on the front of the bodice with braided cord made from coloured threads that match the material. The garment demonstrates a variety of pattern cutting and construction skills and was probably made for a Glasgow School of Art fashion show.

Long silk and linen woven scarf with fringed ends. It has geometric designs and subtle colour changes and blends, achieved through dip dyed warp. Scarf is in shades of purple, red and pink and has a maker's tag with the name Sarah Sumsion.
