The inaugural meeting of the Craft Consultative Committee was 02 Jun 1977. The Chairman was Brigadier R S Doyle and Harry J Barnes sat on the Committee. The Committee was formed following the dissolusion of the Joint Crafts Committee in 1977.

The remit of the Committee was:

"To advise the Scottish Development Agency, and other government and related bodies active in the field, on policies for the assistance and development of the crafts in Scotland; and in particular:-

(a) Publicly-financed schemes of assistance for craftsmen;

(b) All proposals relating to Scottish crafts;

(c) Communication with craftsmen;

(d) The promotion of crafts, including the organisation of, and participation in, exhibitions and other relevant events in Scotland and elsewhere;

(e) The training of craftsmen"
