History
John Weir Douglas, born 05/02/1891, attended evening classes at The Glasgow School of Art from 1913-1916. His first two years of evening classes were in Drawing and Painting, but in 1915 he switched and studied Life Drawing. Douglas is listed as being a warehouseman/drapery-warehouseman, living in Porter Street, Glasgow, for the 1913-14 session. Thereafter he resided in Clutha Street, Glasgow.
Research on Douglas (using the
Sources noted below) found evidence to strongly suggest that he was also known by the name 'John McGregor Douglas' and simply 'John Douglas'. If this is the case, his parents were John Douglas and Annie Weir McDougall Douglas. They resided in Clifford Street, where it is possible that Douglas also lived for some time.
Records indicate that Douglas was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force, and died on June 18th 1918, aged 27. He is commemorated on the Glasgow School of Art Roll of Honour under the name 'John Douglas'.
