History

Carina Woodburn from Carlston, Bridge of Weir, was born on 11th June 1895. She also appears as Josephine Woodburn or Josephine Caroline Michel Woodburn in official government documents. She was the daughter of John Woodburn, a sugar merchant, and Louise Sellier Clinkskill (or Woodburn), and had two siblings at the time of the 1901 Scotland Census. Carina Woodburn had enrolled to study Drawing and Painting at The Glasgow School of Art in session 1914/15, but it is uncertain whether she attended. Her apparent withdrawal from the School of Art may have been caused by her father's death on 11th April 1914 in Winnipeg (Canada). She remained unmarried at least until 1941, the year of her mother's death.
