History
Margaret Farquhar Ross was born in 1892 and had a prolific academic career at The Glasgow School of Art, attending from 1908 until 1915. Throughout her studies she resided at 9 Grantly Gardens, Shawlands, south of Glasgow city centre. Given her young age at the time of enrolment, we may surmise that this address was possibly her family home. Ross' tuition was subsidised by Renfrew, Govan and City Local Authorities respectively throughout this period.
Ross attended as an evening student of Drawing and Painting during her first two years at The School, later undertaking her studies by day. For the year commencing in 1914, we know that she attended in the afternoon, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. This was the slot for the Life class and likely took place in Room 26. We know that Ross specialised in Antique and Preparatory Life throughout her lengthy time at The School and was under the tutelage of such notable instructors as James Huck, W. E. F. Britten and Allan D. Mainds.
Whether Ross pursued her artistic ambitions after studying at The Glasgow School of Art is unknown.
