History
John Rogerson was born in Dumbarton on 11th February 1862, one of three children of Mary Rogerson (nee Roy) and John Rogerson, a draper and Provost. Rogerson attended The Glasgow School of Art from 1886 to 1892 as a student of architecture and won several prizes in the field while at the School. Rogerson was partner in a Glasgow architectural firm with Ninian Macwhannell, who attended GSA from 1881 to 1884. Admitted on the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1890, the Dictionary of Scottish Architects described Rogerson as "somewhat underrated as an architect… because his work consisted mainly of suburban schools and hospitals rather than city-centre buildings". After being awarded the Territorial Decoration for long service in the Territorial Force, Rogerson served during the First World War as a Major in the Clyde Royal Garrison Artillery. He continued in his architectural firm after the war. Rogerson died on 1st February 1930 in Dumbarton and is commemorated on The Glasgow School of Art's First World War Roll of Honour. He also appears on the Glasgow Institute of Architects Roll of Honour (Fellow).
