History
Archibald McCallum Reid was born in 1899 and studied at The Glasgow School of Art for the academic period 1916 to 1918. During this time he resided at 3 Belleisle Street, Crosshill, south of Glasgow city centre. During his second year, Reid received a £3 bursary from the City Local Authority.
Reid was enrolled as an evening student of Drawing and Painting during his two years at The School. His occupation is recorded as Apprentice Engineering Draughtsman, which may be why he chose to pursue his studies by evening. In his second year at The School, we know that Reid studied for two evenings and one Saturday afternoon per week. Reid is recorded as being under the tutelage of a Mr Ferguson, who may be James W. Ferguson, the Assistant Professor at the Life School around this period. It is also likely that Reid may have attended Life School under the tutelage of Andrew Law and also Modelling under Alexander Proudfoot.
It is unknown whether Reid continued his artistic ambitions after his time at The Glasgow School of Art.
