History

Margaret McL Peaston (born 10th October 1897) was a student at The Glasgow School of Art between 1917 and 1922, studying drawing and painting, and design alternatively during her time at the School. She was a day attendee and in her first year also studied specialist subjects such as pottery and lettering.

Her given address was South Street in Greenock and artistic influence seemed to be strong in her family as her sister Agnes G Peaston (born 19th January 1901) was a student from the 1922-1923 session and a further relative Nancy G Peaston was a watercolour painter and stained glass designer prominent in the 1930s. Nancy was part of a family "designers, arts and crafts" business along with her husband, father and brother which was based at 21 Broughan Street in Greenock between 1938 and 1940.
