Jean R Paton (born 30th March/April 1887) was a student at The Glasgow School of Art in 1903-1904, 1905-1906, 1916-1918 and lastly for the 1919-1920 year. She studied design on all occasions, firstly in afternoon sessions and from 1916, for the full day, with Mr Nicholas as one of her lecturers. Additionally, during the 1917-1918 year, she attended drawing and painting classes and specialised in the subject of lettering too. The following year, she was a recipient of a Maintenance Scholarship of a value of £50 for design and decorative art students and gained her diploma in this same session.

During her first year at the School, Jean resided in Grant Street, followed by North Claremont Street for the 1905-1906 session, and by 1916 had moved to Annfield Road in Partickhill.
