Graphic designs for school magazines

Four printed graphic designs featuring school magazine covers, annotated "Coatbridge Secondary School Magazine" and "Airdrie Academy Magazine." The designs are attached to backing paper and two of them are dated 1937 and 1938. This work was used as teaching material in schools in Scotland, as marked the level of students "Fifth year."

Film by Callum and Fraser Rice which accompanies the exhibition by Jimmy Cosgrove ‘Looking for Signs: Ideas and Imagined Circumstances', Studio Pavilion (House for an Art Lover) 28 July - 16 September 2018, co-curated by Alison Harley, Fraser Taylor and Louise Briggs.

The exhibition explored the studio collection of Jimmy Cosgrove, and presented work spanning the early 1970s to new work created for the Studio Pavilion in 2018. Sketchbooks, travelogues, working ideas were included to show the span of work across design and the visual arts, pursued by Jimmy Cosgrove throughout his career at GSA.

Filmed in the context of the exhibition Cosgrove expands upon his ideas, working processes and contribution to design education at GSA, alongside his artistic contribution to the Scottish and Glasgow art scene of the early 1970s and into the mid 1990s, when he retired from GSA to continue working as an exhibiting artist.

A publication with invited contributions by practitioners and academics, accompanied the exhibition.

Laurie, Olivia Lloyd, Maree Meahan, Iona A. E. Montgomery, Ann Vance, Alison Watt and Eveleen Wright. The exhibition was held in the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School Of Art from the 18th to the 23rd of June 1988. The poster was designed at the school and features a photograph of the exhibitors sitting on top of The Glasgow School Of Art's Bourdon Building which was taken by Stanley C. Shepherd.

This poster advertised The Glasgow School Of Art's annual degree show. The exhibition was held on The Glasgow School Of Art campus as well as in the Centre for Contemporary Arts and Tramway which are local arts centres. The 2003 degree show was sponsored by McGrigor Donald, Hoegaarden Beer, the MacFarlane Group and the Gordon Yuill Company. The image used in the poster is by Raul Ortega and the poster was designed by Inlapland.

This poster advertised The Glasgow School Of Art's annual degree show in 1984. The exhibition showcased work by graduating students in drawing and painting, photography, printmaking, murals, stained glass and sculpture. The degree show was held in the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School Of Art and ran from the 15th to the 21st of June. The photograph used on the poster shows exhibiting students sitting on the steps of the Mackintosh Building and was taken by Vaughan Judge who previously worked as a lecturer at the school. The poster was designed at The Glasgow School Of Art and printed by David J Clark Limited.

This poster advertised an exhibition of work by postgraduate fine art students which was held in the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School Of Art from the 23rd to the 29th of June 1990. The show included work by Marta Estrella, Martyn Greenhalgh, Christopher Hoddinott, Brigitte Jurack, Richard Learoyd, Rachel Meehan, Gregory Patterson, Robert Stark and Euan Sutherland. The poster was designed at The Glasgow School Of Art and printed at David J Clark Limited. The image used on the poster was taken by Richard Learoyd and shows a number of students including: - Alex Dempster - Jim Hamlyn - Peter McCaughey - Craig Richardson - Julie Roberts - Andrew Sneddon - Eddie Stewart - Cathy Whippey The list of names was gathered with the help of Eddie Stewart who works as a tutor in the school's painting and printmaking department. Stewart previously graduated from the school with an undergraduate degree in drawing and painting and a postgraduate degree in fine art. He is pictured in The Glasgow School Of Art's degree show posters for 1988 and 1990, both of which appear in The Glasgow School Of Art poster collection. A key identifying each student in the photograph can also be found in the archival folder for this item.
