The photograph album contains photographs of "The Immortals", including Jessie Keppie, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Herbert MacNair, Frances Macdonald, Margaret Macdonald and others of their circle.

The Moyr Smith sketches are from Moyr Smith's first published book Studies in Pictures. Smith trained in Glasgow, becoming influenced by Alexander Thomson and Daniel Cottier, moving to London in 1864.

Of great importance in this collection is a sketchbook of drawings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The sketchbook, dating from the 1890s, consists of 19 drawings of flowers, furniture sketches, and interior sketches of Craigie Hall, Pollokshields, Glasgow.

This item was severely damaged in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 15th June 2018. Some fragments have been salvaged. The bell survives as it was not in the building at the time of the fire.

The symbols which form the Glasgow coat of arms all refer to miracles performed by St. Mungo, the patron saint of the city who is normally represented with these emblems on the coat of arms. They first appeared on the seals of bishops of Glasgow, the fish on the seal of William Wishart in 1270, the bird on the seal of Robert Wishart in 1271. They were used together for the first time on the seal of the Chapter of Glasgow in 1488. The salmon with the ring in its mouth refers to the story of the local Queen who gave her ring to a knight she was in love with, the jealous King stole the ring from the knight while he was asleep and then demanded it back from the Queen, having thrown it into the Clyde. In desperation she prayed to St. Mungo who told his followers to cast their fishing nets in the river and bring him the first fish that they caught, a salmon with the Queen's ring in its mouth. The tree represents the green hazel twig which Mungo restored to life after his companions had killed it. The bell represents the service bell used in Mungo's church and still in Glasgow until c1700. Mackintosh's tree is highly abstract in its Art Nouveau 'whiplash' spirals untypical of his work. The bird is a modern replacement of the stolen original.

Six chairs reupholstered in brown horsehair 1985, very similar to the original fabric found on one of the chairs. Two remaining chairs reupholstered in 1986. 'This large table may well have been designed for meetings of the Board of Governors, who rarely used the original Board Room which was eventually taken over as a studio. It was designed with two high backed armchairs and twelve low backed armchairs and was photographed in 1910 in the new Board Room which Mackintosh had provided for the Governors, and not in the Director's Room for which it was designed. The square is again the dominant motif in this group of designs. The table legs are square, but they are hollow, and square cut outs in them indicate the construction.' (Roger Billcliffe). Designed for the Masters' Common Room at Glasgow School of Art. In the early days of the School the staff did not have individual rooms but shared common rooms one for men and one for women. The desk provides writing space for three people in one piece of furniture. The construction and appearance are simple and bold, as are the other pieces of the period not intended for public display. Designed for Library at Glasgow School of Art. 'This piece appears in the 1910 Bedford Lemere photographs without the upper rack but even in those photographs it served as a reading desk for the periodicals. The arrangement of stretchers, with a small lattice work area in the centre of each section, is typical of the period, each of the intermediate vertical stretchers, at both ends of the table, is pierced with a unique design similar to the carved pendants on the balcony. The upper rack is simply slotted over the desk. Each end has an exaggerated play on the wedges and toggle fasteners which hold the piece together.' (Roger Billcliffe).
