GSA Fashion Show film

The 1978 Fashion Show was held in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre from the 24th to 28th April 1978. The film comprises a combination of still images and film footage of students preparing for the show behind the scenes, and modelling on the stage. There is a mixture of men’s and women’s garments. Styles and themes include metallic fabrics, sportswear, bodysuits and off-the-shoulder dresses. Children’s clothes were also modelled in the show although these are not shown in the film. Garments were designed and modelled mostly by students or former students. Indigo Designs also designed evening dresses for the show. Students involved in the show came from a variety of subject areas and years, including: 1st year; Embroidery and Weaving; Textiles; and Graphics. Hair was by the Hely Design Group and shoes were from Ravel. The set for the show consisted of a pale, self-coloured ruched fabric backdrop. A soundtrack was recorded separately to accompany the film but GSA does not hold a copy of this. A short clip of this film is available online at https://vimeo.com/channels/504825/222346017. Contains colour and black & white reproductions and 26 colour photographs of Robert Stewart's ceramic mural commissions, c1960-1979, with Liz Arthur's accompanying notes. Includes images of tiles for swimming pool on SS Oriana, early 1960s; fireplace at 5 Clarkston Rd., Busby commissioned by Ian Millan, 1963; design for 'very rough suggestion for entrance hall at Campsie', 1963; Campsie Glen Hotel mural, designed 1963 and later demolished; ceramic mural at Royal Garden Hotel, 1964; mural design for Elder's, Argyle St., Glasgow, 1964; design for 'suggested proposal for the entrance to the Hebridean & Highlander' restaurant, 1974; design for Elderslie swimming pool, 1974; ceramic floor & altar steps, St. Joseph's Faifley; 'suggested design for recess in vestry', n.d.; and ceramic tiles, including one given as a wedding gift to Anne Keith. Also includes images of Robert Stewart's works at West Dumbarton Burgh council offices, 1965; Eastwood High School, 1965; Tappit Hen restaurant, Brabloch Hotel, Paisley, 1965; Adelphi St. School, Gorbals, 1965; Douglas Academy, Bearsden, 1966; Motherwell & Wishaw concert hall, 1966 (which won the Saltire Award in 1967); Prestwick Airport, 1973; Hebridean Restaurant, Queen St. Station, 1974; and Brandon Shopping Centre underpass, Motherwell, 1978-1979 (assisted by Peter Anderson).
