Verso " Mrs Kopaloff - 88 yrs - Stepney, East London / 1977 / A reduced cope of the original, part of our / exhibition of East End Faces, held at / Toynbee Hall - The Universities' Settlement in East London." Per DC 101/3/1, Mrs Kopaloff was sitting at her kitchen table in her pre-fabricated home shelling peas. She had escaped from Jewish persecution in Lithuania and found refuge in the United Kingdom; Veronica Matthew knew her well.
