Low-backed armchair for Board Room, Glasgow School of Art

This item was lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014. This item was assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010).
Designed for the (new) Board Room, Glasgow School of Art. A more elaborate version of the chairs designed for the original Board Room in 1899 (MC/F/18).

Low-backed armchair for the Director's Room, Glasgow School of Art

Designed for the Director's Room, Glasgow School of Art. Twelve chairs were made in 1904 for the GSA, but William Davidson acquired a further two, with six of MC/F/58 for use as dining chairs in the hall at Windyhill. Twelve chairs reupholstered in brown horsehair 1984. One chair on loan from Glasgow University, returned 1984. These items were assessed for conservation in 2010 as part of the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project (2006-2010).

This screen printed banner with a large photo of Mackintosh depicts his signature and the Glasgow School of Art emblem reading: "There is honour in honest error none in the icy perfection of the mere stylist".

Masque Outfit, Wig

Part of a costume used in Glasgow School of Art Masque. The wig may have been acquired separately, after the rest of the outfit, which at one point is believed to have included a cape and dagger.

This item was lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014. This painting of the first-floor museum, looking East, is one of the very earliest artistic depictions of the building's celebrated interior.

Poster advertising Activities Week

This poster advertised various events happening during The Glasgow School Of Art's activities week in 1971. The poster details a number of film screenings and talks which took place in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre. Other events included visits to the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride and to an exhibition of prints by the London based printmaking organisation Editions Alecto. There was also an exhibition of work by John McInnes which was held in the Mackintosh Museum.

Poster advertising the MA Design course at The Glasgow School Of Art

This poster advertised the masters course in design offered by The Glasgow School of Art in the mid 1980s. The poster details the objectives and benefits of studying for a postgraduate qualification at The Glasgow School Of Art, including the multidisciplinary opportunities available, the different course options, the Mackintosh legacy and the Glasgow style. The design of the poster suggests it could also have been used as a promotional leaflet. This particular copy has an Irn Bru sticker attached to it that dates back to the 1980s.
