Third Year Part Time material, featuring two projects.

Material related to the work of Richard Meier studying his architectural style from private and public buildings on greaseproof sheets, and architectural drawing details on tracing paper, as well as copies of architectural drawing details marked by the tutor with comments and notes.

Architectural drawings on rolled greaseproof sheets to study the design of The Third Eye Centre in Glasgow as a side project which had been directed by the tutor of the third full-time year course. It consists of two sheets, a large rolled sheet, and a small rolled one. Greaseproof sheet has been used due to its cheap cost, stated by the architect.

Material related to a booklet to study the constructional system of the Elgin Park Centre Greenhouse.

Material related to final project which was to design a bird watching station including tracing papers showing the drawings of the site plan, floor plans, sections, and elevations all in details. The material in this series was originally stapled together. Staples have been removed.

Teaching aids include collections of prints, photographs, and calligraphy examples.

Material related to the summer project, second year studying the design of a coach house at 47 Eldon Street, Greenock. It includes survey notes, photos taken by the architect, architectural detail drawings and copies. Present owners at the time of creation this series is Argyll & Clyde Health Board.

This paper studied the social life of people in the industrial era in the 19th and early 20th century from some of cities and towns across Britain. It addresses the development of both urban and suburban design associated with the style of massive house building programmes that accommodated immigrant factory employees.

Records relating to the properties and premises of the Glasgow School of Art. The majority of these records relate to the construction of the Mackintosh Building: the premises of the Glasgow School of Art on Renfrew Street. The erection of the Mackintosh building is well documented, and the records cover all aspects of the creation of the building from early financial records from 1883 to receipts for fittings in 1912. Material created for Project 5, First Year which relates to the design of a study bedroom including the analysis sheets of the required data for the heating, lighting, and ventilation and the technical information for the functions: writing, reading, sketching, watching TV, listening to radio, entertaining, sleeping, and washing. In addition, the project includes the tracing papers for all the design criteria and space requirements.

All the correspondence listed here occurred after Simmonds left the Glasgow School of Art. The major correspondent is the School Secretary, Edward Catterns, and all the letters from him to Simmonds are the draft or copy letters kept by the school office. Other correspondence includes the letters between Catterns and the Derby School of Art regarding the situation with Simmonds.

The Henderson papers consist of one file of miscellaneous material including correspondence 1911-1922, five letters written by Fra Newbery to Henderson between 1918 and 1923, reports 1922-1923 and papers relating to art education in secondary schools 1917-1924.

Minutes of the Committee of Management, 1854-1892, and of the Board of Governors, 1892-2002. The minute books also contain minutes and some correspondence of a large number of committees of the Board of Governors including: the Chairman’s Committee; Finance Committee; Staff and School Committee (Human Resources Committee); Estates Committee; Audit Committee; Business Committee and a number of sub committees that change from year to year. Appendices: The minute books also contain appendices or supporting documents and papers including correspondence, reports, financial statements and press clippings. Until 1995 appendices tend to be stored pasted or interleaved within the minutes however from 1995-2002 surviving appendices have been collected and stored in a separate folder(s), labelled accordingly.

From 2003 onwards Board of Governors meeting papers, or appendices, are stored within the minute books. Minutes of Board of Governors meetings from 2003 onwards will be found amongst the papers of the next Board meeting, during which they were approved e.g. Minutes for the Board meeting of 03 Dec 2002 and found within the papers for the meeting of 06 Feb 2003.

Annual Reports and Accounts, Strategic plans, Press Clippings, and Annual Reports to Senate have been removed from the meeting papers of 2003-2014. Annual Reports and Accounts can be found at GSAA/GOV/1; Strategic plans at GSAA/GOV/8/1; Press Clippings at GSAA/NEW; and Annual Reports to Senate at GSAA/AC.

Format: From 1845-March 1909 minutes are handwritten in bound volumes. From May 1909-Jun 1955 minutes are typed in bound volumes (with the exception of GOV/2/16 which is loose). Thereafter minutes are typed and loose in folders.

The minutes up to 2002 have separate index books, and many are indexed by committee and/or subjects. From Oct 2014 Board of Governors minutes and papers are stored digitally as PDF files.

Data protection and sensitivity: Minutes over 30 years old are available for public consultation. Permission from the Board of Governors is needed for access to those which are less than 30 years old. However, minutes from 2012 onwards are published online at: http://www.gsa.ac.uk/about-gsa/key-information/governance/board-agendas,-papers-and-minutes/ please note, these may be redacted. Records containing sensitive information about individuals have been collected into separate folders that will be closed for 75 years, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
