Toucan block printing display case

Display of block printing process in wooden display case, featuring toucan design. Back of case has GSA label with writing "Block Printing C". Due to information in archival documentation, display case can be dated pre-1943.

Tracing paper overlay for the poster for the film screening of "Mechanical Ballet"

This overlay accompanies the poster for the screening of Bruce Lacey's "Mechanical Ballet" which can be found under reference number GSAA/EPH/10/162. Lacey is an eccentric character known for working with sculpture, sound and performance and has been featured in a number of British films including the Beatles' film 'Help'. The screening was held in The Haldane Building on the 15th of April 1971. Lacey screened a number of stills from his ICA exhibition during this event.

Trimming of mauve linen

A fabric trimming from a cushion cover, embroidered before the First World War. The cover has pink roses and green foliage embroidered on authentic 'Mackintosh' mauve linen fabric.It is possible that both design and fabric were purchased from Brown and Beveridge, Bath Street, Glasgow.

Tudor Flower Motif

British formal flower motif outlined in chain-stitched metal thread, on linen. Blackwork fillings in silk in several patterns have become worn in places. The motif has been cut out of background and mounted on modern linen. About half the metal thread embroidery is modern restoration. Shows influence of formal Sanish design. Much of the outline is restoration and has been remounted. This work may have been carried out in J&P Coats studio. Another identical and two related motifs, donated to the NDS by John Jacoby are in the Embroiderers' Guild Collection (EG 206). Originally they may have been part of a cover for a long cushion.

Two portrait photographs of Haswell Miller

The item shows two different portrait photographs of Archibald Haswell Miller. The annotation of the first photograph shows the text "London 1912 at 25". The annotation of the second photograph shows the text "Venice 1910 at 23".

An annotation on the top right corner of the cardboard shows "1910-12".

Unidentified student piece

Bedspread of heavy-weight beige fabric with rust coloured applique borders with green and cream needlework. Symmetrical geometrical design with decorative stitching and panels with zigzag and flower designs. Blue, pink, green and brown needlework. Small stain. This item was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Textile conservation was completed in 2019.
