Needlework Development Scheme collections.

• 1&2. Both contain 2 pieces of grey linen on cream card showing variations of hemstitch, straight stitch, herringbone stitch, drawn thread and 4 side stitch.
• 3. Piece of grey paper divided into 4 sections with floral templates. Pale blue linen sampler with embroidered flowers in blue and white thread. Part of Needlework Development Scheme from 1930s.
• 4. Folded piece of grey paper with 2 white paper templates on each side. 2 linen embroidered samples. 4 small square designs on back in blue biro. "NDS 1950's" written on back.
• 5. Piece of folded blue paper with 3 cut paper templates. Large embroidered maltese cross with paper template on inside.
• "NDS 1950's" written on back.

Folder containing Kath Whyte's samples & records on visual disturbances caused by a lens implants. This includes a letter from Shelia to Kath outlining discussion with ophthalmologist about Kath’s drawings, pen drawings on clear plastic, two texts entitled ‘Record of “Extra-Visual Perception” as seen after a cataract operation on the left eye- before spectacles –", one piece of card with preserved flower buds wrapped in plastic, one multimedia artwork, two cards bearing the text ‘Light Experiments - after eye operations, 1977’ and five pages of abstract pen and pencil drawings.

Folder containing coloured woven and embroidered samples, range of layered samples showing scrim with pulled thread effects. Printed oval label on back of some samples with 'Dobby and No'. Several coloured layer of scrim in each sample. Printed black and white newscutting of a butterfly also contained in folder (x 9 pieces).

Documents compiled by Crissie White (who succeeded Kath Whyte as Head of Embroidered & Woven Textiles). Includes a brief history of the Embroidered & Woven Textiles department, an outline of Kath's professional achievements, and catalogue of work by Kathleen Whyte 1930 - 1987.

Contains:

• One green spoon rest with Fall harvest motif; featuring two figures harvesting apples.
• One black and brown rectangular bowl with a geometric pattern; 'Whyte' inscribed on the bottom.

Contains black & white and colour photographs of Kath Whyte's work and photographs of work done by Kath's students: including M. McLellan, Jennifer Marriot, and Ellen Knap.

Includes photographs used as illustrations in 'Design in Embroidery' by Kath Whyte.

There are also two boxes of slides of images relating to embroidery and weaving which cover topics such as threads & stitches, patchwork, metal thread, fabric, etc.

A Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments published by Oxford Univeristy Press. It has a leather cover bearing the initials 'K.W.' on the front cover.

Contains correspondence with private secretary re: conferment of MBE; the Statutes of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 1957; Kath Whyte's MBE medal; MBE certificate signed by Elizabeth II, 1970 [outsize]; and a certificate of thanks from Glasgow Museums & Art Galleries thanking Kath Whyte for her gift of a child's dress and embroidered undewear, 1985.

A Scott Birthday Book published by Monteith & Sanders, Glasgow; containing Sir Walter Scott quotes, in which to make note of the birthdays of family and friends. Inscribed, "Helen Kathleen Ramsay Whyte, 2 Gayfield, Arbroath".

A collection of catalogues, invitations, programmes and dinner menus collected by Kath Whyte. Many relate to GSA alumni and events and some of the dinner menus have been signed by fellow guests. Other items include a catalogue for Kath Whyte: Embroiderer Retrospective Exhibition and a photograph album presented to Kath by Daimaru for her help with an exhibition.

A series of letters written by Kath Whyte to her mother which form a journal of her visit to Sweden, 23 July - 10 August.

Many postcards are from heritage institutions such as the British Museum and the National Trust and feature works of art such as paintings and tapestries. One folder of cards have been cut into strips and woven in order to get ideas for colour schemes.

A collection of personal letters and greeting cards received by Kath Whyte; as well as some letters written by Kath to her sister and mother. This includes letters of congratulations for being awarded an M.B.E. Also contains poems written by Kath and her sister and a script with the notation 'Party to celebrate the occasion of MBE to Kath Whyte before the move from Bath Street to the Newbery Tower - author unknown - Crissie White'.

Includes a framed photograph of Kath Whyte; framed photograph with 'wishing you a very happy birthday, 4.8.18' inscribed on the back (possibly Kath's mother); a framed photograph of Kath Whyte's mother; a Conway Stuart fountain pen in original box; a silver fountain pen; audio-cassette tape labelled 'Macgregor's Gathering, 13&20/7/87; a brown leather box with blue lining and 'K.WHYTE' embossed on lid; three wooden combs;and a metal printing plate for a Christmas card featuring an image of an angel with 'from Kath Whyte' below.

A notebook containing handwritten bible verses which features decorated initials. "A Little Te Deum of the Commonplace" by John Oxenham is enclosed in the back cover.
