Scope and content

Single-faced loosely woven fabric in shades of dark pink (warp), grey, teal and lemon, with ribbons of pale blue, pale pink and black woolen yarn incorporated. The inclusion of thicker fabric ribbons adds texture and pattern to the fabric and a light stripe effect is created using the claret pink warp threads.

Biographical history

Derek MacLean studied at GSA in the 1980s and modelled in the 1986 fashion show. Derek won a Design Bursary in the Bute Fabric competition and second equal prize in the Jonathan Thorpe Yarn Design Competition. He went on to do an MA at the Royal College of Art and exhibited at home and overseas, in session 1987-88. As at July 2017, Derek is a Design Project Manager in Woven Textile in Glasgow, in Interior Design.
