Charles McCreath Kincaid was born in Glasgow on the 29th of December 1890 to Annie Gibson McCreath and John Kincaid, a pawnbroker. He studied drawing and painting at The Glasgow School of Art from 1907 to 1912. He enlisted with the Royal Army Medical Corps in November of 1915 and served both at home and on the Western Front until the end of the war. He is listed in the School's World War One Roll of Honour.
