Mary Wills Wilson was born on 2nd July 1890. She was a student at The Glasgow School of Art from session 1908/09 to session 1914/15. During her time as a student, she stayed at Kilmacolm (Renfrewshire), Greenock and then at Melville Street, Pollokshields (Glasgow). Wilson was awarded her Diploma in Drawing and Painting from The Glasgow School of Art during session 1914/15, and the next year completed her professional training as an art teacher at the School as well. During this period she was appointed Art Mistress at the Greenock Academy. Wilson also exhibited a watercolour painting at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1917.
