Wilson, Leonora B Macgregor

Leonora B. MacGregor Wilson (often shortened to Leonora B. McG. Wilson) was born on December 7th 1895. She was a day student at The Glasgow School of Art from 1912 to 1918, where she enrolled in the Drawing and Painting section. Wilson listed her address for most of this period as 290 Renfrew Street (Glasgow). Leonora Wilson received several bursaries and prizes during her time as a student at The Glasgow School of Art: during session 1915/16 she was granted a Haldane Day School Bursary in the Drawing and Painting Section for £25, and also a Second Prize for Painting from Charles Roberson & Co, worth £1.1s in materials. In session 1916/17 she received a prize for her answer to Questions on Art, History and Technique. The next session, Wilson was awarded a Maclaren Bursary for £20, as well as a Secondary Education Committee Bursary from Glasgow City for £5. She was also appointed Class Monitress for sessions 1915/16 and 1916/17, services that granted her an honorarium.

At the end of session 1916/17, Leonora B. Macgregor Wilson received her Diploma in Drawing and Painting from The Glasgow School of Art, having received the previous session a Needlecraft Certificate grading her work in the subject as "Very Good".

It is unclear whether this student, Leonora B. Macgregor Wilson, is related to the oil and watercolour painter Leonora Barbara MacGregor Wilson (née Smith). The latter was also from Glasgow and died on 5th September 1922. She exhibited her artworks several times at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and the Royal Scottish Academy, from 1888 to the year of her death. From 1907 to 1912 she lists addresses in Dunoon (Argyll) when exhibiting at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. At the same time, an art teacher named Leonora B.M. Wilson from Dunoon registered to the 1910/1911 session at The Glasgow School of Art, and studied Design with instructor and assistant master Peter Wylie Davidson.
