History

Mary Ross was born in 1886 and resided at Cadder Lodge in Bishopsbriggs, north of Glasgow. Her tuition at The School was subsidised by Lanark Local Authority.

Ross attended The Glasgow School of Art for the academic year 1914 to 1915 and was a student of Drawing and Painting. Ross chose to pursue her studies by evening, although her daytime occupation is unknown. During her time as a student of the Drawing and Painting department, it is likely she was under the tutelage of James M. Dunlop, the noted professor of Anatomy and author of Anatomical Diagrams for the Use of Art Students, a textbook which is still in use today. She may also have been taught by Allan D.Mainds, who instructed in Antique and Preparatory Life.

Whether Ross continued her artistic ambitions is unknown.
