John Robert Wilson Reid (junior) was born in Tradeston, Glasgow on 22nd April 1891, to Helen Henderson Bell Reid and John Robert Wilson Reid (senior). Reid, an apprentice architect, attended The Glasgow School of Art from 1909 to 1912 as an evening student of architecture. Reid is commemorated on The Glasgow School of Art's First World War Roll of Honour and according to this, he served as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He also appears on the Glasgow Institute of Architects Roll of Honour (Student) and was a 2nd Lieutenant RGA.
