Andrew Reid was born on the 27th of February 1890, one of three children of Isabella and Andrew Reid, a painter and bootmaker. He attended The Glasgow School of Art from 1903 until 1917, with a break for two years from 1913 to 1915. He alternated between being a full and part-time student in Drawing and Painting and Life Drawing. In 1916, his occupation is listed as Artist. During the First World War, he served in the Highland Light Infantry. Andrew Reid is commemorated on The Glasgow School of Art's First World War Roll of Honour.
