History

Hilda Jane McFarlane was born in Dennistoun, Glasgow, in 1882 to Margaret Cross McFarlane and James McFarlane, a baker. She studied drawing and painting at The Glasgow School of Art from 1903 to 1905, and returned for a year in 1910. She served as a VAD nurse in the First World War, and later married and became Hilda Van Der Vecht. It is possible that she emigrated. She is listed in the School's World War One Roll of Honour.
